Algae/Scale Control

Algae Control

CONTROLLING ALGAE IS BEST ACHIEVED BY PREVENTION RATHER THAN CORRECTION. Chemicals are NOT recommended for algae control.

Algae needs LIGHT, MOISTURE and NUTRIENTS to grow. You can
control algae formation by eliminating any one of these factors. The best and easiest way to control algae growth is to allow your evaporative cooling pads to thoroughly dry out every day. That's easy! Simply shut off the water for several hours each day. OR, if you already shut off
your cooler each night, you're automatically giving your pads
the time they need to dry out.

INSIDER TIP FROM THE
GLACIER-COR PROS!

It is impossible to completely eliminate light with evaporative cooling and almost impossible to eliminate all nutrients. Nonetheless, if you shade evap pads from direct sunlight, thereby eliminating “light,” you can control the formation of algae to a very large extent.

Scale Control

As with algae, CONTROLLING SCALING IS ALSO MANAGED BEST BY PREVENTION RATHER THAN CORRECTION. Chemicals are NOT recommended for scale control.

If you notice any scaling on your evap pads (scaling turns the pads white), slightly increase the water flow over the pads, and increase the bleed-off. Also, do a water analysis to obtain a lasting solution. These are your goals: The water source for the pads should be maintained with a pH level between 6 and 9. Silica levels must be kept below 150 ppm.
